About us
We are here to help parents raise happy and healthy children
We all need support through the most important period of our children: the early years
The ultimate purpose of our Centre is to foster physical, social, academic, emotional and cognitive growth of our young citizens and give support to our learners who are studying Grade 5 to 12.
Prosper ECD & Development Centre is a registered Non-profit Making organisation founded by Mrs Khanyisile Ndlovu and other community professionals from Siyanda Settlement and surroundings in 2016. The organisation is mainly initiated to empower the youth and address the issues of HIV/Aids, Early Teenage pregnancy, poverty alleviations, substance abuse and also to develop young children’s from our community through the promotion of skills development and to have access to quality early childhood development services. The area of Siyanda in KwaMashu is still the under-developed areas within the eThekwini Municipality. There is high rate of unemployment amongst the youth, substance abuse, crime and poverty.
Inclusive
Promoting inclusivity has been shown to benefit all young children. Not only will children have positive feelings toward school and themselves, but an inclusive environment also helps teach important life skills.
Responsible
Teaching them about responsibility will also give them a firm sense of understanding right from wrong, and the desire to always do what needs doing, when it must be done.
Respectful
Empathy is a learned behavior, and a big part of having empathy is having an inherent respect for everyone. So, teaching respect significantly impacts a child's capacity for empathy.
Collaborative
When children actively contribute to the program, they are more likely to be engaged in play that responds to their interests, abilities and strengths
The purpose of the After School Programme (ASP)
We have initiated an After School Programme (ASP) to implement and expand high-quality programs outside school hours. This programme was initiated for the purpose of creating high-quality after-school programs outside of regular school hours to reinforce and complement the regular academic programme of participating kids. We are providing educational enrichment and recreational activities for kids in Grades 5-12 and have a parent involvement component. We provide learners with academic enrichment opportunities, as well as additional activities designed to complement their academic programs. This programme, provide a broad variety of high-quality services to support learners learning and development.
Our Services include tutoring and mentoring, homework help, academic enrichment (such as hands-on science or technology programs) and community service opportunities. Our long term vision is to also include music, arts, sports and cultural activities. At the same time, our after school programs assist working parents by providing a safe environment for children.
The benefits of the After School Programme (ASP)
Our after school programme is turning the aimless hours after school into productive learning time. That’s a big benefit for kids with learning and attention issues. Here are six things our quality afterschool programme does for kids.
❒ Create a sense of belonging
❒ Improve social skills
❒ Provide academic support
❒ Make learning more fun
❒ Provide safety and supervision
❒ Create a sense of belonging:
o Children get to know different kids than those they see at school. That means they don’t have to deal with the same cliques and social issues.
o There’s generally more adult supervision than on the school playground, too. As a result, kids with learning or attention issues are more likely to be included and feel part of the group.
❒ Improve social skills:
Our after school program promotes cooperation, support and respect. This can help kids feel more secure about joining a game or starting a conversation. And if they slip up, a sympathetic staffer is on hand to remind them to take turns or stop interrupting.
❒ Provide academic support:
Our programme offer structured homework help. Homework can often cause friction between kids with learning and attention issues and their parents. So getting it done during the program can make everyone’s evening more pleasant and relaxing.
❒ Make learning more fun:
For kids with learning and attention issues, these classes can be stress-free, fun and meaningful. We are also aiming at offering arts options like drama and music, which can help children, find new interests.
❒ Provide safety and supervision:
Sadly, kids with learning and attention issues are more likely to be victimized or to engage in risky behaviour. Research shows that the hours between 3 and 9pm are when kids are most likely to commit crimes, drink or use drugs or become the victims of crime.
But keeping kids busy can prevent them from engaging in risky behaviour. Studies also show that being in an afterschool program can result in better grades and fewer behavioural problems.
